USF competes in NCAA Division I and is a member of the American Athletic Conference for all sports besides sailing, which competes in the South Atlantic Intercollegiate Sailing Association within the Inter-Collegiate Sailing Association.

While greek life is popular at USF, the men and women of the greek organizations on campus are more centered around philanthropic work and making a difference than throwing giant parties everynight. USF is definately not a school for someone who just wants to party.
Why is South Florida called the Bulls?
With many different early name suggestions, the “Golden Brahman” was selected as the official mascot of USF in November 1962. Students reasoned that, since Florida was a cattle-raising state like Texas, USF needed a mascot comparable to the Texas Longhorns mascot. In the late 1980s, the mascot evolved into the “Bulls.”
USF currently houses 14 national fraternities and sororities in the FSL Greek Village. Greek housing is open to individuals who are members of these Greek organizations. Each organization resides in a two- or three-story house comprised of double bedrooms with a community kitchen, common restrooms and a living room.
The USF Swim Club, a semi-competitive club on campus, practices alongside our Master’s Swim Club. All participants are encouraged to participate in a least two Master’s Swim Meets annually, one of which USF hosts in February.
